Reference Manager Web Publisher - a few general remarks

Some advantages of using the Reference Manager Web Publishing interface

  • The ITM Reference Manager databases are generally more up-to-date than the ERL WebSpirs databases.
  • If you have your own Reference Manager installation, records from the ITM Library databases can be imported seamlessly in your personal databases.

Some disadvantages of using the Reference Manager Web Publishing interface

  • Reaction times of the system are substantially lower than for ERL WebSpirs. It will take more time to do searches and view results.
  • Display options are rather limited. If, however, you import the selected references to your own Reference Manager installation, formatting options again become very rich

Advice: use the Advanced Search mode instead of Quick Search

The Advanced Search mode allows you to specify a number of options, making your retrieval more focused and faster.
  • Select the database of choice and ignore the other databases.
  • Specify individual fields to search in.
  • Combine search terms with boolean operators 'AND', 'OR', 'NOT'.
  • 'Indexed fields': using '*' for truncation will generally give you more results.
  • 'Non-indexed fields': here truncation is automatic and should not be added explicitely. Also left-hand truncation is active.

Annex: selected field codes

The ITM Library databases use customised field names. For field-specific retrieval, however, Reference Manager lists its default field names. So you may need the following table to select the correct fields.
